2013 road trip, part 1 : richmond • wilmington • mcclellanville • charleston

This was our first big road trip with Myla! We took many stops to make it a bit easier, more enjoyable, and with so many overnights, there were a lot of fun stay options: a luxury apartment rental, of course the quintessential B&B, as well as staying in a rustic, civil war log cabin (which will be shown in my part 2, since it was towards the end of our trip). Spring was just starting in the south and hadn't yet begun up here, so there are a bunch of new bloom shots; I was just so excited to finally be out of the winter gloom (it was in the 30s when we left good 'ol Jersey). Here's the first half of our trip, starting with Richmond, VA: Super cute stay at The Taylor House Inn in Wilmington, NC: Yum... Wilmington, NC has become a bit of an east coast hollywood over the years, hence it's nickname "Hollywood East". Brett and I wanted to check it out! Lots of movies and television shows have been filmed there, such as Dawson's Creek, One Tree Hill, Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood, and many others. Fun atmosphere along the waterfront and good food :O) A mini visit in McClellanville on the way to Charleston. Myla was getting antsy to run around and needed a lunch break. This was the perfect little stop off... Charleston :O) We opted to rent an apartment to make it easier on Myla, giving her lots of room to run around and I thoroughly appreciated the dishwasher, since washing sippy cups in hotel bathrooms really is just TERRIBLE. We had no idea how nice of a stay we were in for. Restoration on King was truly a luxury! We had a beautiful two bedroom apartment with absolutely everything we could have needed. Complimentary wine and cheese at 5:30 in the lobby and late night cookies and chocolate-covered almonds made the stay even that much better. To top it off, we received a breakfast picnic basket every morning with our meal picks. Truly wonderful stay; it was hard to want to get out and leave the apartment to do sightseeing... And... She's off!! Freedom! Breakfast basket! She had so much fun watching the people walk by from these windows... Stay tuned for Part 2 : Savannah • Fredericksburg
