away we go. scotland. part 1

glasgow • highlands • edinburgh

Amidst 15 wonderful days of traveling, Brett and I stayed in 11 different lodgings (2 castles, 3 hotels, and 6 B&Bs); the trip was definitely a whirlwind! We started with a coach tour in Scotland and ended in Ireland on a self-drive adventure. Both Scotland and Ireland were so enchanting that we are slowly inching back to normal life...

Deliriously tired after our long flight, our first Scottish meal was dependent on caffeine and chocolate... Maybe we aren't that far from home afterall!

Kelvingrove is an art gallery/museum with a mishmash of themes ranging from fine art to natural history, which often times exhibited the Scots' unique and carefree sense of humor. It was refreshingly random :O)

This would be referred to by the Scottish as a 'soft' morning. With over 40 different phrases for precipitation, the word 'rain' is more often than not avoided.

These are our wonderful tour guides, Pauline and Mal, from the angle I saw them most of the time:

Ah, yes... much better:

We snuck in a burger (in between all of the haggis and sausage). A faint reminder of home....

Castle stay no. 1:

With Charlie and Oliver so far away, I had a little void to fill. This is my pet Highland cow (for one day, anyway). We made a lot of furry friends along the way; you'll meet the rest of them in my Ireland post.

Gorgeously haunted Edinburgh:

The pubs, or should I say 'public houses', were absolutely stunning.... The craftsmanship in the wood details were amazing and the colors were vibrant!

We witnessed a proposal at Edinburgh Castle; congratulations, guys!!! :O)

Coming up next: ireland. part 2...
